How it all started

As a kid, I loved cooking and baking. Yes, I was the kind of kid who could create a mess in the kitchen in no time. Whenever I was bored at night, I remember experimenting by mixing ingredients that didn’t go together. Even as a student, I knew how to cook and make desserts—I was good at following instructions but terrible at remembering recipes. I often started baking with one idea in mind and, halfway through, would completely change the recipe, ending up with something totally different.

Cooking and baking have always been therapeutic for me. I get so immersed that nothing else matters. Fast forward to last year, I decided to pick up a hobby and enrolled in fondant decorating lessons after working non-stop. Walking into the first class, I didn’t know what to expect. My only prior experience with fondant was from childhood, when my sister and I tried decorating our Christmas cake or making custom Easter cakes. During that first lesson, without any equipment, I made my first fondant flower… let’s just say it wasn’t the best experience or outcome! But I quickly started enjoying the lessons and looked forward to them. My passion for baking was reignited, and a strong desire to experiment with cake flavors and designs was born. I bought my first set of tools and began making cakes for friends and family—for free—simply because I loved the process. And even now, that’s still why I do it. With each cake, I try to incorporate something new, which isn’t hard to achieve since I’m still pretty new at this.

This page documents that journey, with all the hiccups and challenges along the way. If you’ve ever baked and decorated a cake, you know the road can be bumpy. My goal here is to showcase the reality of being a true amateur baker—learning new skills and embracing the chaos that comes with baking and decorating.
